Peterborough Cathedral Fundraising Campaign

Beneficiaries

This year Peterborough Cathedral launched an urgent fundraising appeal to secure its future. This iconic landmark, central to the life and history of Peterborough and the Diocese for nearly 1400 years, needs ongoing support to remain a vibrant part of our community and an enduring beacon of faith, history, and culture. As The King's (The Cathedral) School it is important that we step up to this challenge.

The Cathedral isn’t just a site of historical interest; it is our Cathedral, the place we visit five or six times a year; it homes our Cathedral choristers, we visit it for both History and Religious Studies curriculum trips, a number of our Governors have key roles at the Cathedral; and for all our students it remains a place for solace, celebration, and connection.

However, maintaining this Grade I listed masterpiece comes with significant financial demands. The rising price of energy, staff costs, and essential repairs have created immense pressure on the Cathedral’s resources. Operating with just a small amount of grant funding from the Church and none at all from the Government, the Cathedral relies heavily on the generosity of visitors, supporters, and its own commercial activities. As a School we aim to do all we can to support the campaign and have organised a number of fundraising events over the coming months:-

SPONSORED RUN/JOG/WALK - 24TH MAY

As part of our school's support for the Peterborough Cathedral Fundraising campaign, a brave group of teachers, support staff and even governors (well one..) have volunteered to collectively run, jog and (definitely for some) walk 100 miles. The event takes part at Grimesthorpe Castle in Lincolnshire on Saturday 24th May. Starting with our first runner at 7am we will be likely still going late into the night as part of a 10 mile relay team. If you wish to read more about the event itself please see The Grim Reaper - 10, 40, 70, 100 Miler - Running in Grimsthorpe — Let's Do This - sadly, I think the individual 100 mile event is now sold out!

Congratulations to all the runners!!! It was a great day and we have now raised 23% of our fundraising target thanks to all your generous donations. Thank you so much as well for all your lovely messages of encouragement.

CATHEDRAL CONCERT - WEDNESDAY 16TH JULY (7PM)

King’s School musicians past and present will be performing together to raise funds for Peterborough Cathedral. Repertoire will include the first movement of Schubert’s 8th Symphony; Parry’s I was Glad; and Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus and Zadok the Priest.  In addition, there will be performances from soloists and a selection of current Music Department ensembles, including current and former Choristers.

Tickets for this concert cost £12 and can be purchased via the following link: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/peterborough-cathedral-events

SPONSORED WALK - FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER

We will be doing a 10-mile sponsored walk on Friday 19th September 2025. St Chad’s, St Oswald’s, St Peter’s, and School House will compete to see who can raise the most money for the  'Cathedral in Crisis' appeal. House Captains are hard at work planning activities and fundraising initiatives to bring victory to their house! Details of the fundraising campaigns for each house will be sent out in September.
