The inspiration for Miracles Happen stems from Peter’s own experiences, which mirror the challenging journeys many within our community unfortunately face. During his early years as Headteacher at Hertswood in 2014, Peter’s daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness, spending months in Great Ormond Street hospital, and has since defied all odds to achieve a First Class University degree in Fine Art from Southampton University. As a brilliant creative force of nature, she is now completing an MA in Film. This is a testament to her resilience, the miracle of modern medicine and the enduring support from her family.
This triumph, however, is set against the backdrop of profound loss. While at Hertswood, Peter lost 2 members of his extended family, both in their 40s, to cancer and Motor Neurone Disease. Both of these talented family members were outstanding role models, extremely successful in their professional lives and left behind five young children. It is no surprise that all these children, benefitting from the short time with their fathers, are now trailblazers in their own right, forging their way in their own adult lives.
These experiences have shaped the song's core message. "Through this song, I wanted to create something that resonates with the universal human experience of navigating joy, sorrow, and ultimately, hope," says Peter. "Our community, like so many, has felt the sharp sting of loss and the inspiring strength of recovery. This song is a dedication to all those journeys, and a way to give back to the incredible people who offer support when it's needed most."
