St Edward’s School raised over £50,000 using SuperKind, giving pupils real ownership of fundraising and boosting engagement across the school community. Partnerships Manager Shannen Greening shares how the platform strengthened pupil voice and inspired record participation in charity initiatives.
Why did you decide to use SuperKind?
We decided to use SuperKind following a conversation with the Co-Founder, Keren. We were excited at the prospect of having one central platform that enabled pupil ownership of their fundraising activities. Pupil voice is incredibly important at St Edward’s and this applies to nominating, voting and fundraising for causes that they believe in and choose to support.
Tell us more about your fundraising on SuperKind - what was your event and charity(ies)?
St Edward’s chooses two School Charities annually and these are supported by pupils and staff with a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. The School Charities are chosen by pupils, parents and staff via anonymous vote. We operate a system whereby students can nominate a charity, we then invite all charities to put a pitch forward, and students vote for our charities of the year accordingly. Each House delivers one major fundraising event in support of the School Charities each year, though they also support other charities throughout the year with ‘one-off’ appeals. In addition to House fundraising events, the School runs several larger appeals throughout the year such as the Steeplechase fundraiser and collections after concerts and performances. Pupils are actively involved through every stage of the School’s fundraising events and appeals.
How did fundraising on SuperKind compare to any previous fundraising you have done?
Using one central platform where the pupils can keep track of their House totals as well as the whole school total was great! There was a sense of fun competition and a genuine desire to raise as much money for charity as we could. We enjoyed being able to tailor the pages to suit our House needs. A bonus was that pupils could safely set up their own fundraisers. This was an interesting feature as, previously, pupils did not have the option to set up their own fundraisers. It was also uplifiting for the school community to be able to see the total funds raised in ‘real time’. We raised an astonishing £50,000+ in just 3 weeks. We were also delighted that in our second year of using SuperKind, we had twice as many pupils take part in the voting system than the previous year – testament to their increased engagement in charity fundraising as a result of the platform.
Do you have any tips for a successful fundraiser?
Planning! Planning is key. Clear communication, pupil involvement from the outset, and making fundraising visible and engaging all help to build momentum. Giving pupils ownership and celebrating progress along the way makes a huge difference.
We build relationships with our chosen charities to make sure our school community can see the amazing impact of their work – for example, the charities are invited to have a stall at our events, to talk to pupils and their parents and to share the impact of their fundraising. With our support Mary’s Meals (one of our two 2025 charities) was able to provide a school meal to 1,096 children for a year.
Would you recommend SuperKind to other schools?
We have been! Another school recently got in touch to ask for our feedback on the platform, and we were delighted to chat to them, share our experiences, and wholeheartedly recommend the platform. We have also spoken to our current and prospective chosen charities about SuperKind and highly recommended the platform as a way to engage young fundraisers and schools.
What's next for you (on SuperKind)?
We are delighted to continue our partnership with Superkind and look forward to enabling pupils to continue fundraising for important causes that support both our local community and the wider world.
