About Us

4.3 million children are living in poverty in the UK. That’s equal to 9 children in every classroom of 30. When kids grow up poor they miss out. They miss out on the things most children take for granted: warm clothes, school trips, having friends over for tea. Many also face the threat of homelessness. They do less well at school, earn less as adults, and suffer worse health throughout their lives. Any family can fall on hard times and find it difficult to make ends meet.

It doesn’t have to be like this.

Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) works to understand what causes poverty, the impact it has on children’s lives, and how it can be prevented and solved – for good.

  • We carry out high profile campaigns calling for the government to change policies which negatively impact those living in poverty.
  • We provide advice, information and training to the people who work with families struggling financially to make sure they get the help they need.
  • We take on legal cases on behalf of families when they are let down by the system.

All of the above go on to benefit tens of thousands of families, providing them with the money and advice they need to support themselves and their children – giving them a life free from poverty.

How you can support Child Poverty Action Group:

With your support, we can change things for children living in poverty. Here is how you can help:

  • Fundraise – we greatly appreciate donations to help fund the work we do. You could hold a bake sale, take part in an exercise challenge event or ask for donations instead of birthday presents! Get in touch with us to request a Fundraising Pack full of ideas and tips to make the most of your fundraising.

It’s important to remember that children and families in your area may be living on a low income and may struggle to afford things. If you are fundraising in schools and communities there are few simple things you can do to ensure no one feels excluded from these activities.

Things like: giving lots of notice, providing free refreshments and/or activities at events, and avoiding expensive times of year (such as Christmas, end of term or back to school). Read our Fundraising Pack for more information on things to consider.

  • Raise awareness – could you do a presentation to your classmates on child poverty in your area? Or hold an information stall at school?

How about asking the adult members of your family and close friends to sign up to CPAG’s e-newsletter so they can get involved in our campaigns?

We can provide statistics, graphics, posters and other materials to help.
