Who we are

Our charity’s missions and aims are to support those who menstruate by challenging the stigmas, taboos and gender inequalities associated with menstruation through education, provision of menstrual health management solutions and actively being at the forefront of the wider campaign against period poverty.

We are based primarily in Leeds, West Yorkshire, but also work in Leicester and Kenya.

Period poverty

Period poverty is a worldwide issue and affects millions of women and girls who struggle to afford or access safe menstrual protection. The economic, social and environmental impacts of period poverty are huge, with many of those affected restricted from equal education and job opportunities simply due to their periods.

Vision and impact

Our ultimate goal is to address and counter each contributory factor of period poverty. We strive for menstrual equity amongst all women, girls and those who menstruate.

We do this by:

  • Actively campaigning for menstrual equity;
  • Operating a donation station model that provides for the provision of a choice of free products to those most in need;
  • Working in partnership with a network of voluntary, statutory and private sector agencies to supply those in need with access to a choice of free products;
  • Delivering a menstrual health management education programme that focuses on empowering young people, reducing stigmas and developing their confidence and comfort around menstruation;
How you can support Freedom4Girls:

1. Donate period products

We gladly accept donations of in date disposable or washable, reusable menstrual products from both members of the public, businesses or product providers. Freedom4Girls currently have a number of donation stations set up across Leeds, and other areas of West Yorkshire. We also accept postal donations. If you would like to donate products to us please contact us.

2. Set up a donation station

If you would like to support your local community by starting your own donation station, Freedom4Girls can offer support and advice. We suggest speaking to your local community centres, charities, supermarkets, school and other organisations, who may accept or benefit from donations. After finding a donation station host, arrange convenient collection days and identify where these products would best be distributed, either on site or being taken elsewhere.

3. Donate your time

Freedom4Girls are supported by some amazing volunteers in the UK, Kenya and Uganda and there are a number of ways that you can volunteer with us.

If you’re a keen sewer or are passionate about sustainable options of menstrual products, why not donate some of your time towards one of our monthly sewing workshops.

Freedom4Girls is most active in these areas:

Gender Equality
No Poverty
Quality Education
Reduced Inequalities
