WHO WE ARE!

We're WWF and we're bringing our world back to life. 

Right now, our world needs our help like never before.

Nature is in freefall: we’re destroying our forests, polluting our rivers and oceans, and causing devastating changes to the climate. WWF’s Living Planet Report shows average population sizes of wildlife have declined by 68% since 1970. We’re also seeing the effects on our own doorstep: the UK is in the bottom 10% of countries globally when it comes to the abundance of nature.

And nature is not just a nice to have. From the air we breathe to the food we eat, we need it to survive.

At WWF, we’re bringing our world back to life. Protecting what’s left is not enough – we’re now in a race to restore the natural world and prevent catastrophic climate change before it’s too late. And it’s a race we can still win.

There is hope. We know the solutions already exist to create a better world for future generations – if we urgently scale-up our efforts. 

We need everyone to act – there is much to transform, and increasingly little time to do so. But with immediate and radical action we can still stop the loss of nature and set it on the road to recovery. Even with urgent and truly ambitious efforts, this will take time – but our research shows it’s possible for nature’s vital signs to be improving by the end of the decade.

OUR GOALS

RESORTING THREATENED HABITATS AND SPECIES 

We’re working to halt the loss of habitats and restore natural life-support systems for people and species in some of the world’s most special places.

We’re doing this through large-scale landscapes and seascapes programmes, particularly in the Amazon, east Africa, Asia and the UK, while supporting communities and Indigenous peoples to exercise their rights. We’re delivering programmes to maintain or increase wild populations of many species. And we’re working to close ivory markets, restore river flows and protect coral reefs.

ADVERTING DANGEROUS CLIMATE CHANGE 

We’re pushing the UK government to take the strongest action to tackle the climate emergency.

We’re doing this by influencing UK government policies, galvanising huge public demand for climate action, working with the finance and investment sector to help it align with 1.5°C targets, and identifying and promoting nature-based solutions to the climate crisis. We’re also at the forefront of
holding the government to account on keeping its promises on net zero and nature.

CREATING A SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEM 

We’re working to reform our food system, to halt nature loss and drive a global transformation to sustainable food production and consumption.
We’re doing this in the UK by working with farmers, retailers and others so they invest in nature’s restoration, pressing for policies to remove deforestation from our agricultural supply chains, and striving to make people more aware of the link between food, climate and nature.

WHY WWF?

WWF started out 60 years ago to protect nature’s wonders. We’ve learnt a lot since then – from the scale of the threats facing our warming planet to the importance of working hand in hand with local communities.

  Avert dangerous climate change;
• Restore threatened habitats and species; and
• Create a sustainable food system.

Thanks to decades of ground-breaking research from our scientists and experts around the globe we’ve been able to make a real difference. As a trusted voice on the environment, we’ve worked with governments, businesses and communities to create real change for our world.

We know that we can’t tackle the scale of this problem alone. We believe working in collaboration with Indigenous peoples and local communities is the most effective, equitable and efficient way to restore the natural world
that we all hold dear.

Here at WWF we find our strength in the incredible impact we see in the places where we work. We know that change is possible. Together, we can bring our world back to life.
