Who we are

FareShare is the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and food waste.

We believe that no good food should go to waste.

What we do and who we help

We take surplus good-to-eat food, which is unsold or unwanted by the food industry, sort it at one of our regional warehouses, and pass it onto a network of more than 10,500 frontline charities and community groups.

These organisations then turn this nutritious food into meals for vulnerable families and individuals, many of whom are at risk of hunger, and struggling with unemployment, low income, debt, homelessness, family break up, dependency or other issues.

Two thirds of people accessing FareShare food are children and families.

How you can support FareShare:

Our young food heroes are amazing! They make a massive difference to FareShare by fundraising or taking action with their family. Everyone can be a food hero, by stopping food waste and helping to get good meals out to people going hungry you are too. Here are three fun ways to get involved:

  1. Start fundraising for FareShare. Our young fundraisers have always come up with the most fun and inventive fundraising ideas. Remember to pick a fundraiser that you really enjoy. It can be running if you like sports, selling homemade crafts if you want to be creative or starting a bake sale if you love food. Get parents and family friends to sponsor your challenge. Every pound you raise will help FareShare get enough food out for four meals.

  1. Keep an eye out for food collection points at your local Tesco store. You have the best chance of finding them before Christmas and over the summer holidays. Spotted one while out food shopping with mum or dad? Check the list of food items that will be on display at the collection point and add a couple to your trolley to donate. The food your family buy will go to good use and help families that are struggling to afford a meal.

  1. Become a food waste champion. Did you know that hundreds of thousands of tonnes of good food is wasted every year? This happens while millions of people can’t afford enough to eat. You can make a difference starting at home. Look for ingredients that really need eating in the fridge or at the back of the kitchen cupboard. Cook up new recipes with your family and prevent this delicious food from going to waste.
