What we do

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is one of the best children’s hospitals in the world. We look after seriously sick children, especially those with complex and rare medical conditions that other hospitals aren’t as well equipped to look after.

Every day, the brightest minds including doctors, nurses, and medical researchers come together to change the lives of thousands of children – and change the world. And, every day, 600 young people from across the UK arrive for life-changing treatments. We were the first to successfully carry out a number of treatments that are now saving the lives of hundreds and thousands of children around the world. For example, the first ever bone marrow transplant took place at Great Ormond Street in 1979.

Despite the greatest challenges a child can face, the hospital is a place where being sick does not always mean being sad. Together, our play specialists see 500 patients a day, helping make children’s’ time in hospital more fun. And it’s a place where you’ll find – today and every day – some of the bravest people you could ever meet.
