Let's make walking and wheeling an accessible choice
Hello! We're Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking and the people behind the UK’s biggest walk to school campaign.
We want to create a nation where walking is the natural choice for everyday, local journeys; free from congested roads and pollution, reducing the risk of preventable illnesses and social isolation. We want to achieve a better walking environment and to inspire people of all generations to enjoy the benefits the simple act of walking brings.

Helping children discover the joy of walking and wheeling
We’re the people behind WOW – the walk to school challenge which is creating safer, cleaner streets and happier, healthier pupils. WOW is a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day using our interactive WOW Travel Tracker. If they travel sustainably at least once a week for a month, they are rewarded with a WOW badge.
We work with over 2,500 schools across the UK, and in 2024/25, over half a million pupils took part in our walk to school programmes. WOW schools typically see 59% fewer car journeys to the school gates and 18% more journeys walking and wheeling all the way to school and our resources are available in English and Welsh.

It's never too early to get active
Little Feet is our range of walking activities for children aged 2-5 years old, designed specifically for use in early years settings. Our Little Feet resources are perfect for introducing the benefits of walking to young children and their families, encouraging them to adopt healthy walking habits through topics linked to the Early Learning Goals.
Little Feet provides families with the opportunity to spend quality time together but also teach children road safety skills and how to look after the environment.

Campaigning for safe and accessible streets
Living Streets has a rich history of campaigning to make walking and wheeling accessible to everyone and remove any barriers that might prevent people from walking or wheeling for short, everyday journeys.
Recent campaign wins include seeing Scotland ban footway parking and Wales adopt a 20mph default in built-up areas. In Scotland, drivers are modifying their habits resulting in fewer Penalty Charge Notices being issued. And in Wales, around 100 fewer people were killed or seriously injured on roads with 20mph and 30mph limits in the 12 months following the change. That’s 100 fewer lives lost or drastically altered.
How you can support Living Streets (the Pedestrians Association):
If you're already walking, wheeling, cycling or scooting to school, you're already supporting us, your community and the planet.
Every journey you make has a positive impact. You help reduce traffic and pollution around your school gates and bring a little more joy and energy into your mornings. That’s something to be proud of.
If you'd like to support us to help even more children get happier and healthier on the school run, please consider choosing Living Streets as your charity.
