Why we exist

Children and young people should be hungry to learn, yet 2.2 million children across the UK are at risk of going hungry in the morning. That’s five pupils in every class of 30. The magic behind breakfast is so much bigger than the food itself. Working with schools in disadvantaged areas across England and Scotland, Magic Breakfast empowers every child and young person to reach for their dreams and thrive. One breakfast at a time

The magic of breakfast

Every child and young person deserves breakfast at the start of the day. Yet millions across the UK are at risk of hunger, with as many as five pupils in every classroom of 30 potentially arriving at school without having eaten since the day before.

Morning hunger can be easy to miss. But its impact is hard to ignore. A rumbling tummy can make it harder to concentrate, learn, join in, and feel ready for the day ahead. No child
should have to carry the worry of hunger through the school gates.

That’s where Magic Breakfast comes in.

For more than 20 years, we’ve worked alongside schools and communities across England and Scotland, listening to children and young people and campaigning with decision-makers to ensure their voices are heard.

We’re working to create the conditions every pupil needs to start the day feeling nourished, valued, and empowered to reach for their dreams.

What we provide is about so much more than food. The magic is what happens around the breakfast table. It’s the warm welcome. The laughter over toast. The chance to sit down, talk, play, and
connect. It’s a trusted adult knowing a child’s name, and a child knowing there is a safe, welcoming place waiting for them at the start of every school day.

Our mission is simple: to champion and provide nourishing breakfasts, ensuring every child and young person has the best possible start to their day.

But we know we cannot do this alone. Ending hunger takes all of us; schools, communities, families, policymakers, supporters, and partners, coming together to make sure every pupil has what they need to thrive.
