3.1 to prevent or relieve global poverty, distress or suffering,
particularly but not exclusively by raising awareness of the root causes
of global poverty and vulnerability and proposing and promoting
positive alternatives. vulnerability means people and communities
whose life, livelihood, security or health are at risk.
3.2 to promote the advancement of environmental protection and
sustainable development (development which meets the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their own needs) for the benefit of the public by:
– the promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic
growth and regeneration,
– the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of
life in socially deprived and disadvantaged communities, and
– supporting the preservation, conservation and protection of
the natural environment and the prudent use of resources.
3.3 to promote human rights (as set out in the universal declaration of
human rights and subsequent united nations conventions and
declarations) throughout the world by all or any of the following means:
– monitoring abuses of human rights;
– obtaining redress for the victims of human rights abuse;
– relieving need among the victims of human rights abuse;
– research into human rights issues;
– educating the public about human rights;
– providing technical advice to government and others on
human rights matters;
– contributing to the sound administration of human rights law;
– commenting on proposed human rights legislation;
– raising awareness of human rights issues;
– promoting public support for human rights;
– promoting respect for human rights among individuals and
corporations;
– international advocacy of human rights;
– eliminating infringements of human rights
3.4 to promote active citizenship for the public benefit, in particular but
not exclusively working with students and young people, by helping
them to gain awareness of contemporary social and economic issues,
and developing their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them
to participate fully and actively in society as independent and
responsible individuals
3.5 to advance education in the field of sustainable development,
poverty and citizenship.
