(a) to develop the capacity and skills of the members of socially and economically disadvantaged communities in the north of england, especially black and minority ethnic communities, in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society;
(b) the promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit in particular by:
i) the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of race or religion;
ii) advancing education and raising awareness in equality and diversity;
iii) conducting or commissioning research on equality and diversity issues and publishing the results to the public;
iv) cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity.
