Helping unemployed men
Being unemployed can be pretty miserable. You may be homeless or you may not have enough money to pay for rent, food and heating. You are trying desperately to find a job. Finally you get chosen for an interview. You really want that job, but all you’ve got to wear for the interview are your jeans, trainers and a T-shirt. You’re not going to get it looking like that, are you?
Enter Suited & Booted! Our charity was founded in 2012, and since then we have provided over 13,000 vulnerable men with smart clothes for their job interview, where we know that appearance is everything. We help army veterans, care leavers, ex-prisoners, people who have kicked drug addiction, homeless men and men who’ve been unemployed for a long time. They come to us from all over London, referred by job centres, agencies and charities like CentrePoint, Crisis and The Prince’s Trust.
Each client gets about an hour’s personal attention from one of our professional stylists. He is given a suit, shirt, tie and shoes that fit him perfectly. Our aim is for every client to leave us looking fantastic. We also want them to feel great about themselves, full of confidence that they’re going to smash their job interview. If they need it, we’ll offer help filling out job application forms. Interviews can be a bit scary, especially if you haven’t had many, so we can also provide training and practice. We really want them to get that job – and more than half of them do!
Please help us
Everybody at Suited & Booted is an unpaid volunteer and most of our clothes are donated. However, we still have to pay our rent, and buy in some things like shoes. We don’t get any money from the Government, so we depend on donations and fundraisers from our lovely supporters. This year we are aiming to transform the lives of 1,500 vulnerable unemployed men.
It would be great if you could do a fundraiser for us or get your family to donate clean interview clothes in good condition.
You can help to transform the life of a vulnerable, unemployed man by boosting his confidence and helping him to nail his job interview. It could be a real turning point in his life, thanks to you.
