The objects (“the objects”) for which the charity is established is to preserve for the benefit of the townspeople of the borough of northampton in the county of northamptonshire and the nation at large, the premises known as 78 derngate, northampton and their historical, architectural and constructional heritage arising in particular from the occupation of the same by the bassett-lowke family and the work and artefacts designed and implemented therein for the family by charles rennie mackintosh with a view to the advancement of public knowledge of the craftsmanship designed by the said charles rennie mackintosh and others who may from time to time determined by the trustees. to this end the trustees commit to establishing and running an accredited museum and to hold, develop and make accessible the collections and assets for long-term public benefit. in doing so it will from time to time purchase or borrow artefacts associated with the house and the work of the people related to its commissioning
