Knightsbridge School charity co-ordinator, Fran Hall, talks about how the school empowers students to lead fundraising efforts, raising over £20,000 this year for MediCinema. Fran praises SuperKind as a simple, donor-friendly platform that has boosted their impact — especially through being able to claim Gift Aid.
Tell us more about fundraising at Knightsbridge School.
Each year we select one main charity to support alongside three other charities that we partner with annually (Place2Be, Royal Hospital Chelsea and KSEF ). We aim to choose a school-wide charity that allows us to focus our fundraising efforts and make the biggest possible impact.
How did you come to choose your charity 'Charity of The Year'?
Our charity coordinators (myself and Emma) present a shortlist of charities to the children, who then vote for the one they would most like to support. These charities are usually suggested by staff, pupils, or parents, along with a few that reach out directly to the school. A key part of the selection process is that the charity should either be local or closely align with the school’s core values such as environmental sustainability or community wellbeing.
Hear from Medicinema, Knightsbridge School's 'Charity of The Year'
“We’re incredibly grateful for our partnership with Knightsbridge School. To have an entire school community rally behind our mission to support thousands of NHS patients is deeply powerful. The SuperKind platform has played a vital role in helping the school go above and beyond with their fundraising – and that success translates directly into moments of relief, connection, and care for people facing some of life’s toughest challenges in hospital. Their efforts are making a real and lasting difference.”
– Jamie Lynch, Director of Development, MediCinema
How are students involved in the fundraising?
The students are heavily involved in all aspects of the fundraising. From designing posters and spreading the word to making and selling items or running stalls, they play a hands-on role and absolutely love being part of the effort. Their enthusiasm is a big part of what makes these campaigns so successful.
What are some examples of fundraisers that you have done?
Some of the fundraising events we’ve run this year include hot chocolate sales, snow globes made by the school council, movie nights, bake sales, KS Got Talent, a summer art exhibition, charity disco, and the ever-popular tea towels! So far, we’ve raised over £20,000 for MediCinema.
Why did you choose SuperKind?
SuperKind, has been a fantastic platform to use – simple, effective, and donor-friendly. It is easy to use, transparent, and the platform sends donations directly to the charity via a link, which means there’s no need to handle or count up cash. One of the best features is the option for supporters to add Gift Aid to their donation, helping us raise even more for our chosen cause. It’s also reassuring to know that every penny goes exactly where it should. Another benefit is being able to see how much each individual campaign has raised. Plus, the SuperKind team have also been incredibly helpful and supportive throughout. We’d highly recommend it to any schoolsor groups raising money!
