Why did you decide to sign up for the SuperKind Social Impact Schools Award? As an SEN school, is social action something that you focus on a lot?

We signed up for the SuperKind Social Impact Schools Award because our students love working towards a reward like a badge, which gives them a motivating and tangible outcome. As an SEN school, we focus heavily on kindness and social action—it helps our boys develop empathy, teamwork, and confidence while making a real difference. The award aligns perfectly with our ethos and gives our pupils a structured, celebratory way to showcase their kindness to the community!

How did you introduce the Award at your school?

We introduced the SuperKind Award in a whole-school assembly at the start of the year, explaining that it would be a special focus for us. We framed it as an exciting challenge—working together to spread kindness and earn our badge by the end of the year. The boys were really motivated by the idea of tracking their progress and celebrating their impact as a school community!

What are some examples of social actions that the Award has led you to take?

The SuperKind Award has inspired us to explore important topics like racial discrimination in age-appropriate discussions, broadening our students’ understanding of social issues. It’s also motivated us to take tangible action, such as organizing food donation drives for our community—projects we might not have prioritized without the Award’s framework. Seeing our pupils engage with kindness in both learning and doing has been incredibly rewarding.

What difference has the SuperKind Social Impact Schools Award made at your school? Tell us a bit more about how taking part in the award has benefited pupils with special educational needs?

The SuperKind Award has made a real difference in our school—our boys are now enthusiastic about earning more badges, and they’ve come up with some truly inspiring ideas to help others. We’ve seen a noticeable growth in kindness, with pupils actively looking for ways to make a positive impact. For our students with special educational needs, the Award has been especially powerful. The clear, structured goals (like earning badges) give them motivation and pride, while the focus on social action has strengthened their confidence, teamwork, and sense of purpose. It’s been amazing to watch them grow not just in kindness, but in their belief that they can change the world around them.

Do you have any tips for how other SEN schools might take part in the award/use SuperKind?

For SEN schools starting SuperKind, I would recommend keeping projects simple, visual and pupil-led – like tracking kindness with a badge chart or organizing small, impactful actions (e.g. thank-you cards). Focus on activities that play to your students’ strengths, tie into existing routines, and celebrate every step! The real magic happens when pupils see their own ideas making a difference – whether it’s a ‘compliment station’ or helping at a food bank. Most importantly? Make it joyful – when our boys are excited to earn their badges, the kindness follows naturally!
