BGS Read-A-Thon

Let’s get reading! Beginning Monday April 28th, The BGS PTA will be hosting a read-a-thon.

What is a Read-A-Thon? Each student sets a goal to read as many minutes as they can during the fundraiser period. Students will gather support from family, friends, and neighbours to pledge donations for their reading efforts. Funds raised will support PTA sponsored activities and performing arts!

Frequently asked questions

How does it work? Students (from nursery to year 6) will document minutes read on the provided reading logs. Tally the total number of minutes read at the bottom of the page and return completed logs to your student’s teacher. Additional reading logs will be available with your student’s teacher and in the school office.

What reading counts? ALL reading counts, including being read to by another student or an adult. If one student reads to another student, they both can count the minutes read! Books, e-books, picture books, graphic novels, and magazines all count!

Are students required to raise funds in order to participate? While donations are encouraged and appreciated, it is not required in order to participate in the Read-a-Thon! Our goal is to encourage students to have fun reading!

How should students collect collect sponsors or donations?

Students can ask family, friends, and neighbours to make a donation in their name on this fundraising platform. A digital flyer has been sent for parents to share.

How will the funds be used?  Part of the funds raised from the Read-a-Thon will be used to improve the performing arts department (new lighting and sound equiptment as well as new curtains for the stage!). The remaining funds will be used to fund PTA sponsored activities and supplies. Examples include: the spring term planetarium activity, ipads, and special treats on holidays.

What prizes are available?
Paper People Books, a local bookshop in Pateley Bridge has kindly sponsored some very exciting prizes for the students with the most minutes read! Prizes will be awarded by age group: Early Years, Pre-Prep, and Prep.
