Year 2 Carpenter Bees Read-a-Thon 2026

March 5th – March 19th

To celebrate World Book Day, the whole school (KS1 & KS2) is joining a fortnight of intensive reading! Whether it’s sharing a picture book or reading independently, every page helps our school thrive.

💡 Why Your Donations Matter

Funds raised go directly to FROGS to support the extras that make Ropley special. Your donations help maintain our school swimming pool, provide new laptops and headphones, and fund our Library Refresh—including new window seats and an outdoor reading deck. Every penny turns a reading challenge into better resources for our children.

Ropley Read-a-Thon: Step-by-Step Process

  1. Get the Tracker: Download the PDF or collect a hard copy from Mrs. Howling at reception.
  2. Set Up the Profile: Log in to SuperKind. Create a Username-only profile for each child (e.g., ReadingHero7).
  3. Check: Did you use a unique username? Do not use your parent email for the child’s login.
  4. Set the Challenge: Fill in the "My Reading Challenge" box on the tracker.
  5. Invite Sponsors (Start Early!): Share your child’s SuperKind link with family and friends before they start reading.
  6. Check: Ask for an "Overall Challenge" pledge (a lump sum like £10) for attempting the goal.
  7. Read & Log: Fill in the Date, Book Title, and Pages Read daily.
  8. Upload Progress: Every week, take a photo of the tracker and upload it to the profile. This updates sponsors on your progress!
  9. Finalise: Once the Read-a-Thon period ends, upload your final tracker photo to collect the pledged donations.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Getting Started: Profiles & Logins

Q: My child doesn’t have an email address. How do they log in?

A: At Ropley School, we use a Username-only system for students. During setup, you will create a unique username for your child. They will use this (and a simple password you choose) to log in, meaning they never need their own email account.

Q: Can I use my email address for my child’s username?

A: Please avoid this. Your email address is tied to your Parent Dashboard. To keep your children's progress separate and secure, ensure each child has a distinct username that is not an email address. This is especially important for households with multiple children to ensure their Reading Tracker data stays separate.

Q: I have three children at Ropley. Do I need three accounts?

A: No. You only need one Parent Account. From your dashboard, you can create and manage multiple individual profiles for all your children.

Using the Reading Tracker

Q: What information do I need to record on the paper tracker?

A: The tracker is divided into a few key sections:

  • Header: Fill in your child's Name and Class.
  • The Challenge: In the "My Reading Challenge" box, help your child set a clear goal.
  • The Log: Use the table to record the Date, Book Title, and Pages Read for every session.

Q: I’m struggling to edit or save the digital tracker as a PDF. What should I do?

A: Don't worry! If digital editing isn't working for you, please see Mrs. Howling at reception for a hard copy of the tracker. You can fill this in by hand and simply take a photo of it to upload to SuperKind.

Q: How do I "upload" the tracker to SuperKind?

A: Once a page is full or the challenge is complete, take a clear photo of the tracker. Log into the SuperKind Parent Dashboard, select the correct child's profile, and click "Upload Progress." This digitises their hard work and updates their "Impact" stats💰

Sponsorship & Fundraising

Q: Does sponsorship happen per page or per book?

A: While the tracker allows you to log specific Pages Read, for the Ropley School Read-a-Thon, it is usually easiest to sponsor the Overall Challenge.

  • How it works: A sponsor pledges a fixed amount (e.g., £10) for the child completing their entire goal.
  • Why this way? It keeps the math simple for donors and focuses the child on the "Big Win" of finishing their challenge.

Q: What happens when my child finishes the tracker?

A: Page 2 of your tracker features a "You are AMAZING" celebration. When you reach this, it’s time to collect your pledges! Upload the final photo to SuperKind to show sponsors that the mission was accomplished.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if my child reads a graphic novel or an audiobook?

A: All reading counts! For graphic novels, log the pages as usual. For audiobooks, you can log the "time listened" in the pages column or estimate the equivalent pages.

Q: Can I backdate entries if we forgot to log them?

A: Yes. If you find a scrap of paper with reading notes from earlier in the week, simply enter the original date into the "Date" column of the tracker.

Q: Who sees my child’s data?

A: Privacy is paramount. Only you, your child, and authorised school administrators can see the specific logs. Sponsors will only see the overall progress toward the challenge goal.

Q: Do we have to finish both pages to get the sponsorship money?

A: No! The tracker is a tool to record your effort. Whether your child reads 5 pages or 50, every bit of effort counts toward the fundraiser. Sponsors are supporting the attempt and the habit of reading.

Q: When should I ask for sponsors?

A: Right at the start. It is much easier to get a "pledge" (a promise to pay) before the child starts reading. The SuperKind platform will then automatically follow up with sponsors to collect the money once you upload your progress.

Q: Why is "Sponsoring the Overall Challenge" better than "Per Page"?

A: Because this is a school fundraiser, a flat donation (e.g., £20 for the whole challenge) is simpler for donors to process online. It also means if a child struggles to finish their exact page goal, the school still receives the much-needed support for their effort.

Q: What if I have three children and only one email address?

A: That is exactly why we use Usernames. You use your one email to manage the account, but each child gets a "nickname" login. This keeps their trackers separate so you don't accidentally upload "Year 6" reading onto a "Year 1" profile.

Q: Can I just take a photo of the tracker at the very end?

A: You can, but we recommend uploading "milestone" photos (e.g., every 5 days). This keeps your sponsors engaged and lets them see the hard work your child is putting in!

Q: I can't get the PDF to save my changes. Help!

A: Technology can be tricky! If you can't edit the digital file, please don't struggle. Mrs. Howling has physical copies at the front desk. You can write on those with a pen and just snap a photo with your phone to upload—it’s the easiest way!
