We and the school are passionate about our children spending time outside and being active, which is why we value our outdoor resources so highly. Our children all spend lots of time outside, on our playgrounds and field, in our mud kitchens and outdoor play areas, in the Spinney, and in our spiritual garden.
But research shows that primary school children are less likely to engage in physical activity as they get older. We have a lovely climbing frame for our smaller children, but the options for our older children to engage in imaginative games, develop strength and co-ordination, and challenge themselves at height, are more limited.
We are fundraising for a new permanent play installation. The brief is to provide physically challenging equipment which inspires active and imaginative play for our older children. We have considered our existing facilities and consulted our older pupils about their needs. Options include a new clamber stack, innovative climbing frames or play systems that can be used in a myriad of ways. Because the kit will involve children in high places, and it needs to be usable in wet weather too, we’ll also need safety flooring.
We are trying to raise £10,000 to £20,000. The more we can raise, the more exciting and interesting the equipment will be. We have already raised £3,000 through sponsored activities and local events. And we are applying for charitable grants as well as looking for support from local businesses.
We would be hugely grateful if you could contribute to our fund.
