Extreme Reading Challenge

Dear parents,

For our next fundraising event, the School Council have decided to take on an ‘Extreme Reading Challenge’ to earn money that will be donated to the charity Kinship. Kinship carers are family or friends who step up, often during an unexpected crisis, to care for a child when their parents aren’t able to. The School Councillors wanted to help a charity that supports the children and their carers in this situation.

The School Councillors are challenging Junior School students to complete 6 hours of reading over 7 days beginning on Friday 20th of March and finishing on Thursday 26th March.  Girls are encouraged to complete the extreme reading challenge and make a donation via the SuperKind website, with the reward of wearing ‘cosy’ clothing on Friday 27th March, 'Cosy Day'.  Our younger pupils, in Reception - Year 2, can combine their time reading independently or to their adults with having their adults read aloud to them, in order to make up the six hours.

Keen for more of a challenge?  The School Council invite the students to have someone take a photo of them reading in ‘extreme’ or unusual (but safe!) places to share with their classes.  This might include reading up a tree, under the dining table, on a climbing frame or in a wardrobe.  Photos can be uploaded onto the Google Classroom by KS2 pupils and either printed and brought into school for EYFS and KS1, or emailed to the class teachers

Thank you in advance for your support of Kinship.

Best wishes,
Mrs Ferguson and the School Councillors
