Did you know?
Around 2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water. Without clean water and proper sanitation, individuals are at risk of contracting diseases like diarrhoea, which can spread quickly when water is contaminated. Every day, 1,000 children die from illnesses linked to poor sanitation, inadequate hygiene, and unsafe drinking water.
In fact, every 10 seconds, someone dies due to these preventable causes.
This year, we at Reigate St Mary’s are proud to support an incredible organisation, Toilet Twinning, in their mission to combat these global issues.
What is Toilet Twinning?
Toilet Twinning is a charity dedicated to improving sanitation, providing clean water, and delivering hygiene education to some of the world’s poorest communities. The concept is simple: people or groups "twin" their toilet with one in a developing country by making a donation. This money is used to build toilets, improve health, and save lives.
But the impact goes beyond just health. For many girls in developing countries, the lack of safe, private toilets means they miss school, particularly during their periods, as they have nowhere safe to change. Furthermore, they often face the long and tiring walk to find clean water. By twinning a toilet, we can help provide these girls with better access to education and the opportunity to stay in school.
How Toilet Twinning works:
We don’t just want to raise awareness and twin toilets – we aim to inspire others to join us in this vital cause.
Let’s work together to help flush poverty away for good!
