What is the Ubunye Foundation?
Ubunye is a rural development fund in South Africa. It provides a wide variety of programmes to change the lives of people within the local area. The community itself drives these changes. Their vision is `where communities lead in pursuing Sustainable Development that builds Resilience to Climate change`.
They accomplish this in 4 main programmes – Education for Life, Health and Wellbeing, Young futures, and Savings and Green business.
It is supported by their Patron - Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh.

How will St. Dominic’s raise money for this charity?
St. Dominic’s aims to raise money to support the education part of the Ubunye Foundation.
Students who are in year 10 upwards, staff and parents are invited to take part in a charity walk. This walk is known as the Mighty Hike. It is based in the beautiful Peak District and will take place on Saturday 29th March. Participants can choose to walk – 6, 12, 18, or the full 26 miles.
The terrain is easy to walk on and used by many charities in the past. There are toilets and places to drink on route. The route will start and finish at Bakewell. However, if you want to do a shorter route, there will be a patrolling safety vehicle that can pick you up at 6,12,18 mile check points to take you back to Bakewell.
A video of the route can be viewed here - https://www.macmillan.org.uk/mighty-hikes/choose-a-hike/peak-district-hike
