Campaigning about litter picking and raising awareness about plastic pollution since she was 7 years old.

11 year old Ali has been involved with the youth empowerment charity Kids Against Plastic for more than a third of her life. She joined the amazing Kids Against Plastic (KAP) club at 7 years old and never misses their Saturday meetings. She’s currently the Chief-Pick-Up-Officer. With the support of her peers in the KAP club and people she’s connected with around the world, she started a campaign to pick up a million pieces of plastic and raise awareness about plastic production and pollution. In November 2024 it hit 700,000 pieces and Ali continues to promote it across social media.

This campaign and her role at Kids Against Plastic led to her being invited to become the youngest speaker at The World Retail Congress, where she spoke alongside Amy Meek, one of the founders of KAP.

This talk didn’t go unnoticed within the climate community, and in 2024 Ali was invited to speak on a panel at ChangeNOW in Paris. Ali was again the youngest person ever invite to speak at this summit. But Ali wanted to do more than just speak at the conference! So she decided to combine her goals of having as big of a social impact as possible with the goal of having as small of an environmental impact as possible. To do this, Ali set up a Pick2Paris campaign, where she traveled by electric car from her home in Seville to the summit venue in Paris litter picking along the way (and encouraging people to join her!).

Aware that the cost of renting an electric car and staying in different places along the way would cost a lot of money, Ali decided to fundraise to cover the cost of her sustainable travelling. She set up a fundraising page on SuperKind and contacted journalists all around the world to help her raise awareness and the money started flooding in. Ali was able to raise about £4,000 to enable her to make a round trip of 4000km and collect over 20,000 pieces of litter en route!

Her continued dedication to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and production has led to an invitation to another global conference. In 2025, she’ll be delivering the closing speech at IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language), where she’s going to address issues she, as a climate activist and a student, feels should be taught in schools.
