When Joshua was four-and-a-half, he was walking down the street in downtown Miami and came across a homeless man. Seeing the man’s saddened eyes, Joshua wanted to do something. He reached into his pocket and gave the man the $20 (about £15) that he had just received as a gift from his grandmother.

Seeing the man’s face light up filled Joshua with a sense of joy and relief. He wanted to do more. So when he got home, he searched for a foundation that allowed kids to help other people. Unable to find a foundation that allowed kids to volunteer, Joshua decided to start his own foundation. The idea was to collect food that stores donate and distribute it to those in need. He phoned and emailed all his friends and family and asked them to join him in giving food to those in need.

Then, Joshua asked those volunteers to invite their own friends and family too. Before he knew it, the foundation had an army of 1,200 volunteers. Joshua wants to inspire others to take action too. He says: ‘It doesn’t matter who you are, where you live, or what you do, a small act of kindness can go a big way. Believe in what you want to do and do it.’
