Campaigning for world leaders to act on climate change since she was 15 years old.

When Greta was 8 years old, she started learning about climate change and could not understand why so little was being done about it. By the time she was 11, she felt the need to do something. She decided to start by changing some of her own behaviours and convinced her family to do so too. Together they went vegan, stopped flying, started upcycling clothes and much more!

Four years later, Sweden had the hottest summer in 262 years, which led to wildfires. Greta decided that changing her own behaviour was not enough. She needed to change the attitudes of world leaders. Instead of going to school, Greta made a large sign that read ‘SCHOOLS STRIKE FOR CLIMATE’ and sat outside the Swedish Parliament. On her first day, she posted a picture on social media and before she knew it other activists joined forces to strike together.

‘I have learned you are never too small to make a difference.’

By the end of the year, Greta had gained over 20,000 student allies and her movement held strikes in over 270 countries. This environmental activist’s strikes for climate earned respect from world leaders. She was invited to speak at United Nations climate events in 2018 and 2019. Greta says, ‘I have learned you are never too small to make a difference.’
